Deep-Sea Mining: Is there a future for it and what does it mean for the ocean?

Deep-Sea Mining is becoming more realistic in our future as a way to provide metals for electric vehicle (EV) batteries that could help support reducing climate change. The question remains how close are we to mass mining in the deep sea?

Dr. Andrew Thaler has been working on deep-sea mining for 13+ years as a Ph.D. student, and a consultant, and for the past 4 years as the Editor-In-Chief of the Deep-Sea Mining Observer. Andrew talks about his work in mining, the purpose of the Observer, and why the Observer is no longer active. He also gives his predictions for the future of Deep-Sea Mining.
