Lionfish were introduced into the Atlantic Ocean in the Southeast US a number of years ago and since then they spread their distribution into the Caribbean where they are outcompeting other predators for the same food.
There are a number of programs and initiatives to eliminate the Lionfish from the areas including spearfishing them and eating them.
