Sea Otters have gone from very abundant to almost extinct and back to flourishing. But the problem now is that they are competing for food with the Fishermen's catch...shellfish.
It will be interesting to see the solutions that come about in the near future. On the one hand, the Sea Otter regulates the Kelp Forest (indirectly) by controlling the Sea Urchin population. On the other hand, the Fishermen need to catch enough shellfish to make a living.
Both are important...so what can be done?
